Draft Notices

Fr Sean

After almost 13 years at St Peter’s, the diocese has decided that this is a suitable time for Fr Sean to move on to pastures new. After returning in mid-August from his summer break, Fr Sean will end his ministry at St. Peter-in-Chains on 4th September. He plans to take a short sabbatical before commencing his new ministry. Fr David Barrow will be our new Parish priest.

The new porch, making St Peter’s easily accessible for all, with the windows depicting 6 modern saints – which was entirely Fr Sean’s idea – along with the decoration and changes within the church, are a visible, physical sign of Fr Sean’s time here. However, we must thank God firstly for his strong faith which we felt in his priestly ministry celebrating the Mass and the sacraments, his homilies and the stories he used to illustrate them as well as in simply talking to him. We give thanks also for the person of Fr Sean whom we have got to meet individually as he has been involved in events in our lives – sad or happy, or simply when discussing football or golf! We cannot forget his huge commitment to our schools and young people throughout his time here; that he kept the parish alive during the difficulties and limitations imposed during covid and that he promoted and encouraged the use of technology – streaming and social media as part of our mission today. Fr Sean would not want us to pretend he is perfect or to forget the dedicated parishioners who are the backbone of our parish and who have supported him and us. So, we offer thanks for all that God has given us through Fr Sean’s ministry for the past 13 years and ask God to continue to bless him wherever his new ministry takes him.
