THE CROUCH END FESTIVAL
This is a general appeal to get involved in reviving the annual Crouch End Festival, slated for May 4th-13th this year. We are helping the Crouch End Festival Group plan and execute a series of events restricted to local people starting on the first (Bank Holiday) weekend, paving the way for theCrouch End Open Studios weekend (12/13th).
Website is www.CrouchEndFestival.org
So far a diverse range of people and local organisations have declared their support, offered practical help and stated their intention to participate. We’re helping liaise with the Council and want to encourage and facilitate residents (local people only) to get up and perform on a stage in Hornsey Town Hall Square on Saturday 5th May from midday to 6pm.
Other art/comedy/performance/craft spaces include Hornsey Vale Community Centre, the space outside the Library where the ‘mermaid’ statue is, the space in front of Oddbins and very many of the coffee shops, pubs and bars. This list will be extended to possibly some of the Schools and main car parks if required.
The opportunity is for every kind of performance discipline ranging from drama, comedy, new writing, street theatre, site-specific pieces, circus, mime, rehearsed readings, musical theatre, cabaret, and the type you do that’s not listed. We particularly welcome drama workshops for children, book readings and children’s theatre.
So, please consider putting on a Festival event and complete the application form on the website.
If you want to help in the Square on the Saturday (May 5th) or have any issues or concerns or ideas or to simply express support, please contact us as soon as possible as time is short.
We could do with more SIA trained personnel, Stewards, Volunteers, helpers, and a runner for the Square event on the Saturday. We would really appreciate any comments or suggestions.
”4 Days in August”
The Metropolitan Police Service’s report into the summer disorder, “4 Days In August”, was released on 14 March following a comprehensive internal review.
This report is the MPS assessment of our actions, our key findings and what work we have undertaken and continue to take forward. This is the final report, having previously published the interim report in October 2011 where we highlighted several areas that improvements needed to be made.
The MPS has sought to take as comprehensive a view as possible in compiling this report to provide an accurate reflection of events and lessons to be learnt.
Whilst this is the final report of this review, extensive work continues within the MPS in order to take the recommendations forward.
The report (19MB) can be accessed here.

Neighbourhood Link
Haringey Borough Police is the latest Metropolitan Police borough to launch an innovative community messaging service to provide the public with news and information from their local police.
Called Neighbourhood Link, it is a free service that enables local residents, businesses and those who work in the borough to regularly receive information from the police.
Those signing up to Neighbourhood Link will receive emails and text messages about crime and safety in the areas they sign up to.
Through Neighbourhood Link, Safer Neighbourhoods teams will keep recipients updated with local police activity, crime prevention advice and what they are doing to address community concerns and make Haringey borough one of the safest in London.
Haringey Police Borough Commander, Sandra Looby said:
“I’m delighted to launch Neighbourhood Link in Haringey borough”
“Feedback from other boroughs using Neighbourhood Link has been extremely positive and I would encourage anyone living in, working in or visiting Haringey Borough to sign up to Neighbourhood Link and receive information about local police activity and what we are doing to address community concerns at a local level.”
Neighbourhood Link will also be used by other Metropolitan Police Service units to keep recipients informed in the event of a major incident impacting on London.
In order to receive messages, individuals will need to register their details. Registering is free of charge and will enable the police to send messages relevant to the areas where they live and work.
To register please visit www.neighbourhoodlink.met.police.uk.
