Parish

Parish

The parish was founded in1884 and was run by the Augustinians – Canons Regular of the Lateran or CRL – until 2004 when the Canons withdrew and the Diocese of Wesminster took over. For more information about the history of the parish and the church itself click here.

We are part of Haringey Deanery which comprises St Peter’s and the parishes of Our Lady of Muswell, Muswell Hill; St. Francis de Sales, Tottenham; St. Ignatius, Stamford Hill; St. John Vianney, West Green and St. Paul the Apostle, Wood Green. The present Dean of Haringey is Fr Peter Randall of Stamford Hill.

Today, with an average weekly Mass attendance of around 540, the parish mirrors the diverse makeup of London with almost 100 nationalities represented among our congregation.

Our mission:

Through faith and service to build the kingdom of God proclaimed by Jesus Christ.
We will:
  • Be open and welcoming to all
  • Support and accompany those in need
  • Encourage and support each other in our faith
  • Offer our faith to others
  • Celebrate the liturgy of the Church with dignity
  • Make our church a place of prayer and peace

The Parish boundaries

St. Peter-in-Chains Parish is bounded by Priory Road and the High Street to the north; the main line railway to the east; Park Road, The Broadway, Crouch End Hill and Hornsey Rise to the west; and the Gospel Oak to Barking railway as far as Stapleton Hall Road, then the Parkland Walk to the south

Clergy

Our Parish Priest is Father Sean Carroll who succeeded Father David Irwin in January 2010.

Apart from an obvious deep love and understanding for the scriptures, Fr Sean’s other passions are golf and Arsenal.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is very much the centre of operations and is run by our very capable secretary, Jennifer Graham-Dillon, who has worked for the Parish since 2002.

Opening times

Normal opening times are 9:00am – 2:45 pm,Monday – Friday; however we ask people to avoid contacting the office on Monday morning if possible.

Volunteers

The Parish could not run without the small army of volunteers, often unsung, who give their time freely in so many ways to enhance the life of the community.
