Parish News – 20th November

World Youth Day

Pope Francis asks the global Catholic community to celebrate World Youth Day locally on the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is a day for the world to recognise and celebrate young people as a gift in our local church communities and affirm the contribution of young people, whether that be through school, at home, or of course in church. The theme, shared with Flame 2023, is “Rise Up!” based on the verse from Luke’s Gospel: “Mary arose and left with haste (Lk 1:38)“ and reflects a call to stand up again, together, to find fresh strength and to help others to rise up too. It reminds young people we must commit again to use the energy, gifts, talents we have in new ways. For us, in England and Wales, there will be a number of resources made available for all settings including home, school, parish, university and individual.

Welcome Centre for Ukrainians

The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London and the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain have partnered to open a Welcome Centre for Ukrainians in central London. Based at the Eparchy’s cathedral near Bond Street, the Centre provides a single point of contact for essential information for arrival, settling and long-term living in the UK. Pastoral care is very important and the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy is concerned not only for those who are arriving, but those who feel they want to have a place to pray during the day. The cathedral doors are open from 10am to 8pm. Visit the website to learn more.

Also Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) has launched a Ukraine Matching Service for the Catholic community to help recruit hosts from across the UK, willing to support displaced Ukrainians. Visit the website for information.

Today there are just 5 people who, every week, count the weekly collection and other parish income on a Monday morning. Thank you. Steve 07847 714286 or steve@stevebethell.co.uk

Grateful thanks to all those parishioners who have very generously donated to our recent appeal. Our stocks are replenished. We can however always use tinned tuna, mayo, sweetcorn, marg and cheese (no catering sizes please). Large bags of sugar are useful too as are packs of plain crisps and boxes of cereal bars. To give some idea of numbers, we serve ca 70 guests per week.
