Advent – ‘Prepare the Way’

This weekend we begin the Season of Advent, when we ‘Prepare the Way’ for the coming of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ in human form at Christmas. It is also the beginning of a new Church year when on Sundays we will be listening for the main part to the gospel of St Matthew; this is referred to liturgically as ‘Year A’. There are ways we can prepare:

Joan Griffiths has written an Introduction to the Gospel of St. Matthew which sets the context, background and features of this Gospel and is worth a read.

All are welcome at the Candlelit Advent Service at Holy Trinity Church, Granville Road, N4 4EL on Sunday, 1st December, at 6pm, followed by mulled wine and mince pies.

Time spent before the Blessed Sacrament is an excellent way to prepare for Christmas at our Holy Hour on Friday evenings, 7:30-8:30pm or Exposition from 9:30-10am on Saturday mornings.

There is a Retreat day for young adults ‘Long-expected Jesus’ with the Assumption Sisters. Sat 14 Dec from 10 am to 5 pm Milleret House, 23 Kensington Square, W8 5HN Tube: High Street Kensington. Bookings: youth@assumptionreligious.org. Donations only, lunch included.

The ‘Advent Giving Calendar’ reported last weekend, can help us use this season to think of those who might be struggling, and do our bit to help them in the run up to Christmas. Copies of the Calendar can be found at the back of church. On behalf of those you will help, Thank You.

Donations to the Poor Box at the back of Church are used at Christmas to support families in great need.
