Easter 2019

Palm Sunday, 14th April – Palm Sunday, begins the greatest week in the church year. Blessing of Palms will take place before each Mass. We encourage you to participate in as many Easter ceremonies as possible.

Holy Week & Easter Services – Details are in the leaflet at the back of the church and here on the website. Joan Griffith’s notes here on the parish website will add to to our understanding of the Easter readings.

Parish Reconciliation Service – Monday 15th April at 7:30pm. Details of services in other parishes are given in the leaflet.

Holy Places – The retiring collection taken on Good Friday is given to the upkeep of the Holy Places in the Holy Land.

Children’s Stations of the Cross – Each year as part of the First Holy Communion programme, we hold a special Children’s Stations of the Cross service which is designed for children to increase their understanding of the Passion of Christ in a way that is comfortable and identifiable for them. The service will take place at 10:30am on Good Friday, 19 April. We warmly invite all families with young children to join us.

Swieconka – Blessing of Easter Food Baskets – This Polish tradition of blessing specially-prepared baskets of Easter foods will take place in church at 11am on Holy Saturday, 20th April.

Easter Vigil – Confirmation – One adult will receive the sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, 20th April, 8:30pm. Please keep them in your prayers at this time.

Welcoming the Rising Son – As the women went to anoint the body of Jesus on the morning of the third day, so we invite you to follow in their footsteps. We will gather to be the first to welcome the dawn of the new day and celebrate the joy of the resurrection. Please join us at Alexandra Palace to celebrate the light of the world as the sun rises at 5:30am on Easter Sunday to celebrate God’s presence in the world together in prayer and to break-fast together with the Son. For more details talk to Claire Kennedy 07478330557.

Easter Flowers – It will be too late to get pots of daffodils to decorate the church this Easter so we will not be asking for Easter endowments in memory of loved ones this year. If you would like to donate towards the cost of decorating the church with flowers this Easter, you can either put your donation in the wall safe marked ‘Flowers’ above the Holy Water font or put it in an envelope and give it to Fr Sean or drop it in to the office.

Eucharistic Ministers – Can ministers please fill in the sheet at the back of church with their availability on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and at the Easter Vigil. Ministers without email can also collect the May/June rota there.

Help clean the church for Easter – Please come on Monday, 15th April after the 9am Mass. We URGENTLY need cleaners to help clean the church regularly on Mondays after the morning Mass, if you can spare half an hour or an hour.

Easter Offering – Along with Christmas Offerings and Mass Stipends, these provide the priest’s monthly Salary. If you will be away at Easter and wish to make an offering, envelopes are available at the back of the church. If you have Planned Giving envelopes please use the Easter envelope. Many thanks

Lenten Alms

You can still support the Cardinal’s Appeal Fund, the DEC/CAFOD Appeal or Cyclone Adai and the ‘Poor box’ by placing donations in the wall safes above the Holy Water fonts at the church entrance.

Thank you

Thank you to those who came to my Birthday Party last Wednesday afternoon, 3rd April, and to those who could not come but sent their best wishes. Thank you very much. It was a wonderful day. Peggy Duncan

Church Renovation Project

Much of the work is approaching completion though the main window will take a couple more months to complete. The sanctuary changes, renovation of the floor and the pew kneelers, redecoration of the Parish Rooms, necessary work in the Presbytery and renewing the heating systems for both has yet to start. Fund raising will continue over the coming weeks and months. Fr Sean
