St Patrick’s Day

A happy feast day to all the Pats, Patricias and Patricks in the parish and of course to all those parishioners who trace their family roots across the sea to Ireland. May St. Patrick guard you wherever you go, and guide you in whatever you do and may his loving protection be a blessing to you always.

Lent 2019

Lent Family Fast Day, 15th March – CAFOD believe in a world where every woman, man and child can flourish. This Sunday we take up the Lent Fast Day collection in aid of CAFOD which will help them to work with their expert teams in 165 countries to tackle the challenges of poverty, conflict, climate change and inequality. Please, if you can, Gift Aid your donation. You can also donate online. Your donation is a lifeline. An outstretched hand to a friend in danger. Together, we can reach out to children, women and men in God’s family with love. Thank you.

Ecumenical Stations of the Cross
Ecumenical Stations for Lent will take place as follows: 7:30pm, 22nd March Holy Trinity Glanville Road, 29th March Holy Innocents, 5th April Hornsey Parish.

Lent 2019 Faith-sharing Groups – This Lent the theme for groups across the diocese is “Rejoice and be Glad”. Re-discover a profound and personal sense of being loved and of being called to love, as joyful missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. If you would like to join a group, speak to Fr Sean or email the parish office stroudgreen@rcdow.org.uk. Copies of the booklet are available on the newspaper stand priced £3.

Studying the Scripture – One good Lenten practice is Bible reading, and for those who wish to do so, a reminder that there are notes by our own scripture scholar Joan Griffith (and some good illustrations for meditation) on the parish website for the Sunday readings each week.

Grow in intimacy with God this Lent – A parishioner has trained as a Spiritual Director and is available to accompany individuals who wish to explore their relationship with God. Sessions are donation only and offer an opportunity to help you draw out a deeper relationship with God, to help you discern where God is at work in your life and to help you identify the blocks to becoming closer to God. Please contact Fr Sean for more details.

Cardinal’s Lenten Appeal 2019 – The Cardinal’s Appeal funds initiatives in parishes, schools and charities in the three mission areas of: Marriage and Family Life, enriching and supporting marriages, the essential building block of society and the Church; Youth and Evangelisation, supporting young people, the future of the Church, as they grow in their relationship with God and deepen their Catholic faith; and the Church’s Service in Society, putting our faith into action by serving the poor, the lonely and the marginalised. This year, the Cardinal is asking us to think about the last of these in particular, and he has launched a new programme focusing on the food poverty that affects so many across the Diocese. Much of this poverty remains hidden. Many use foodbanks even though there is a wage earner in the family. Please take a donation leaflet as you leave Mass today. In addition, to find out about volunteering opportunities, visit CardinalsLentenAppeal.org.uk. In the words of Cardinal Nichols: “I hope this Appeal offers you and your family one way in which to observe Lent and to grow in the richness of our response to God’s blessings of life and faith.”

The Tottenham Refugee Alliance

Thank you to all at the Parish of St Peter in Chains who raised an enormous £707 to help to resettle a refugee family in Haringey. This will be such an enormous help – very sincere thanks to all. You can still donate at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/tottenhamrefugeealliance.

A meeting for all interested or would-be volunteers is being held on 26 March 2019 from 7:30pm at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Stapleton Hall Rd.
