Lent 2019

Lent Family Fast Day, 15th March – CAFOD believe in a world where every woman, man and child can flourish. But the reality is because we don’t have enough money to go around we are forced to turn away one in three requests for help. Mahinur [ma-hin-oor] is one of those. She lives very near the coast, in an area that’s badly hit by climate change. Last year a drought killed all the fish. Mahinur has a disabled husband and son to support, so she’s working every hour of the day but some days the family just drink water for dinner. We already know where Mahinur is. We know she needs help. And we know how to help. That’s why we would like to ask you to consider having a simple meal next Friday for Family Fast Day and making a donation to CAFOD. A donation envelope is attached to the Newsletter. Please return it next weekend and, if you can, Gift Aid your donation. You can also donate online. Your donation is a lifeline. An outstretched hand to a friend in danger. Together, we can reach out to children, women and men in God’s family with love. Together, we can change the ending of more stories like Mahinur’s. Join us next Friday evening here at St Peter’s at 7:30pm for our Ecumenical Stations of the Cross and Frugal Supper in aid of the CAFOD Lent Appeal. Thank you.

Lent 2019 Faith-sharing Groups – This Lent the theme for groups across the diocese is “Rejoice and be Glad”. Re-discover a profound and personal sense of being loved and of being called to love, as joyful missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. If you would like to join a group, speak to Fr Sean or email the parish office Copies of the booklet are available on the newspaper stand priced £3.

Studying the Scripture – One good Lenten practice is Bible reading, and for those who wish to do so, a reminder that there are notes by our own scripture scholar Joan Griffith (and some good illustrations for meditation) on the parish website for the Sunday readings each week.

The Tottenham Refugee Alliance – Thank you to all who gave to last weekend’s collection which has raised over £700. You can still donate at A meeting for all interested volunteers is being held on 26 March 2019 from 7:30pm at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Stapleton Hall Rd. Find out more at:

Grow in intimacy with God this Lent – A parishioner has trained as a Spiritual Director and is available to accompany individuals who wish to explore their relationship with God. Sessions are donation only and offer an opportunity to help you draw out a deeper relationship with God, to help you discern where God is at work in your life and to help you identify the blocks to becoming closer to God. Please contact Fr Sean for more details.

Margaret Maloney RIP

Mary would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those parishioners and friends who have supported her with their prayers and friendship during the difficult time following the untimely and very sad death of her beloved sister, Margaret. A Mass will be celebrated for their intentions in due course.

Soup Run

Grateful thanks to everyone for continuing to donate to the soup run via the box at the back of the church. Could we respectfully ask however that fresh meat/egg mayonnaise/cheese is well within use by date, bearing in mind the sandwiches are made weekly on a Saturday. Sugar, mayonnaise and coffee are always required. Many thanks.

Our group for adults with learning disabilities and their families and friends, is looking for someone to run our very popular art/craft table on the first Saturday of the month, 2-4pm in St Peter-in-chains school hall. We pay £40 per session. Please contact Kayte Brimacombe at for further information.
