Sick & Retired Priests’ Fund

Next weekend 10th/11th November we will take up a special collection to ensure that those priests of the Diocese who, having followed their vocation and given their lives to the Church, are cared for and supported when they are sick and when they retire. The fund helps cover the medical, housing, convalescence, and personal needs of these priests, as well as helping in an emergency. They have been here for us; let us be there for them. Donation envelopes are attached to the Newsletter and leaflets are available at the back of church to read about this important work and bring back next weekend with your donation. Please Gift Aid your donation if possible. You can donate online at Please continue to pray for the wellbeing of all our clergy: active, retired and ill.

Remembrance Concert

A Remembrance Concert to fundraise for the Parish Buildings Project: Thursday 15 November at 7:30pm at St Peter in Chains. A beautiful and moving evening of remembrance music and wartime songs interlaced with letter extracts read by local actor Nari Blair-Mangat* from Sue Hessel’s book “Letters from a Good Man at War” based on letters home from her uncle, an RAF pilot who before the war had been training to be a priest. He died in action in 1944 aged just 23 years old. These letters tell his story and give an eloquent insight into life and sacrifice during the war years. A collaboration of music from the 11:15 Family Mass Choir, friends and guest musicians. Based on a sell-out event at Crouch End Waterstones last November. Tickets £10 (children £2) – includes glass of wine/ soft drink – from the parish office, Sue Hessel (0777 939 4424), or online at eventbrite.  All proceeds to the Parish Buildings Project. Please support this! (* film credits include Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes, Disney’s Cinderella and Murder On The Orient Express directed by Kenneth Branagh)

Building Works

Please note along with the work that is being done on the porch, decorating of the church might begin this week. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and ask parishioners to take extra care when entering/leaving the church after Mass. Thank you for your cooperation.

Enrolment forms for the 2018/2019 program are available from the Sacristy after Sunday Masses, or from the Office (9am-3pm, Mon-Fri). Completed forms must returned by Sunday 18 November. There will be a parents’ information evening on Tuesday 27 November at 7:30pm in the church, to share full details of the program. Confirmation 2019

Open to young people who live in this Parish and are in Year 9. Application forms are available from the sacristy and will only be given to the candidate and not friends or family members. If you are unsure if this group is appropriate for you, and are interested in Confirmation, please speak to Fr Sean for more information on what is available. Completed forms must be returned by Monday, 19th November 2018.

Finance Committee

This week’s quarterly meeting considered our income and expenditure, progress on this year’s Health and Safety assessment and the introduction of GDPR. The bulk of a lengthy meeting concentrated on the building works – the progress of the main job, donations and plans for fundraising and discussion of the costs we have received for the additional works we hope to carry out in the church, parish rooms and presbytery from the overall budget we are working to. As we are still waiting for a number of prices, we cannot yet say whether this will effect what work is finally done.
