Prisoners’ Sunday

Today is Prisoners’ Sunday, a day to direct our thoughts and prayers to prisoners and their families, and an important opportunity to make a difference. You can show your support by placing a donation in the wall safe at the back of the church above the Holy Water font. Gift Aid envelopes are available at the back of the church on the newsletter stand.

Six New Saints

Bl. Pope Paul VI and Bl. Oscar Romero will be canonized together on this Sunday, October 14th. The two blesseds will be canonized alongside four others: Bl. Francesco Spinelli; Bl. Vincenzo Romano; Bl. Maria Caterina Kasper and Nazaria Ignazia of Saint Teresa of Jesus.

You have given over £900 so far and you can still donate here.

Jim Doyle RIP

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the death of our much loved parishioner and friend Jim Doyle. Sadly Jim lost his battle against cancer and passed away peacefully at home last Tuesday. Jim’s funeral will be held here at St Peter’s on Thursday, 18th October at 12noon. Jim’s body will be received into the church on Wednesday, 17th October at 7pm. Please keep his wife Sheila, sons Andrew, Liam, Brian, daughter Emma, grandchildren and Jim’s sisters Nuala and May in your prayers at this very sad time. The family have requested no flowers except from family members. There will be a collection for the Church restoration project. NB No 9am Mass on that day.

Month of the Holy Souls

In November we remember relatives and friends who have died. Holy Souls lists and envelopes are available at the back of the church. Please put your list along with your donation in the envelope provided and hand in to the priest or the parish office.

Holy Families – The Joy of Love

This six-week, faith-sharing exploration of Amoris Laetitia runs from Sunday 14th October – 19th November and contributes to our ongoing reception of the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis. Booklets will be available from group leaders from week beginning 14th October and will also be available from the newspaper stand priced £3. Anyone wishing to join a group should contact the parish office.

Catechists

There will be a catechists Meeting on Monday, 15th October, 7:30pm in the lower parish rooms, for catechists and those who are interested in becoming a catechist for our First Holy Communion or Confirmation programmes beginning this Autumn – volunteers always welcome!

Calling all young people aged 18-30

There will be an evening of prayer and reflection with Cardinal Vincent on Tuesday, 30th October 2018 from 7pm at Archbishop’s House. The Cardinal will share his reflections from the Synod on Youth and there will be an opportunity for further dialogue. The event is free to attend but registration is required by email to youth@rcdow.org.uk.

World Mission Sunday

Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday – As our global church comes together on this special day, Missio asks the faithful of England and Wales to ‘work together to build a future of hope’ in Ethiopia and throughout the world, through your prayers and financial support. There will be a retiring collection after all Masses next weekend. You will be able to Gift Aid all donations by using Missio envelopes.

If you have a Missio/APF Red Box, please return it along with your donations to the parish office. Please write your name and details clearly on the box so we can return them to you once emptied. Thanks
