CAFOD Family Fast Day: Friday 5 October

On Family Fast Day, CAFOD invites us to share in the abundance that God has given us. We are asked to fast, pray and give to help people like Longora, who lives in a remote village in Uganda. The area is so hot and dry, that people used to struggle to get enough clean water to survive. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners in England and Wales, CAFOD has made sure Longora and her neighbours now have a reliable supply of clean, safe water. On Family Fast Day (Friday 5 October), CAFOD invites us to eat simply – perhaps having a bowl of soup instead of a meal – and give the money we save to help people like Longora. Fast Day envelopes are attached to this week’s newsletter. Please return the Fast Day envelope with your donation for next weekend’s CAFOD collection. Please also consider giving a regular monthly donation if you can and to gift aid any donation if you are a tax payer. Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity. We will also be showing a Film that evening on Laudato Si’ 7:30pm in church followed by Frugal Supper in aid of CAFOD in the lower parish. Please note No Holy Hour that evening. You can donate online here.

Praying the with the Rosary

A small Faith-sharing group to discover more about the gift of the rosary: Where it comes from, the mysteries of the Rosary, how to contemplate and pray with the rosary. Every Sunday through the month of October at 3pm in the church. For more details contact Claire Kennedy 07478330557/ clairekennedy001@gmail.com

Catechists

There will be a catechists Meeting on Monday, 15th October, 7:30pm in the lower parish rooms, for catechists and those who are interested in becoming a catechist for our First Holy Communion or Confirmation programmes beginning this Autumn – volunteers always welcome!

Safeguarding Review

In a statement from the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales sent from Rome last week, the bishops announced an entirely independent and comprehensive review of the safeguarding structures that currently operate within the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Importantly, they will seek to ensure that the voices of the victims and survivors of abuse, through the Survivors Advisory Panel established by the NCSC, fully inform the review and its recommendations. Each bishop has decided that he will take steps to set aside time for the purpose of meeting with victims and survivors of clerical abuse who live in his diocese. This will be done in cooperation with the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator, to assist the bishop in responding in the best possible way to those who speak to him, in his pastoral role as their bishop, of their pain, hurt and anger. You can read the full statement here.
