Resumption of normal service….

The times of weekday Masses, Holy Hour, Confessions, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and Benediction return to normal this week. We thank everyone who stepped in to help over the holiday period – Supply Priests, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Soup Run Sandwich-makers & Distributors, Counters and those who unlocked, locked up and provided Sacristy cover while Fr Sean was on holiday.

Farewell Cathy

After 25 years of faithful service to the parish Cathy Bruce who leads the Music/Choir at the 9:45am Mass will be leaving us to return to her home town, Salford, Manchester, in the first week of September. There will be no 9am Mass on Saturday, 1st September instead we will be celebrating a Mass of Thanksgiving at 12noon here at St Peter’s followed by a bring-and-share lunch at Holy Trinity Church (Groves Room) Granville Road, N4. All welcome.

Cardinal expresses sorrow and shame about abuse in the Church

Cardinal Vincent has written in response to the letter from Pope Francis on the abuse of children in the Church. In the letter, the Cardinal expresses sorrow and shame, saying: ‘I am so sorry for the hurt that has been caused, primarily to those whose lives have been radically damaged by childhood abuse, to their families, and to those who know personally a deep sense of trust that has been betrayed. I am utterly ashamed that this evil has, for so long, found a place in our house, our Church. This evil has particular abhorrence because not only is it a terrible abuse of power, but also because, in its evil, it both employs and destroys the very goodness of faith and trust in God. As a Father in this House, I bear this shame in a direct way, for it is the direct responsibility of a father to protect his household from harm, no matter how difficult and complex that might be.’ The Pope’s letter is addressed to all Catholics and we ask you to take time to read it and reflect on it. Copies of the Cardinal’s letter and the letter from the Holy Father can be found on the Newsletter Stand and both can also be accessed here and here.
