May, Month of Our Lady

For centuries, Catholics have set aside the month of May to honour Mary, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Many will remember May processions with statues of Our Lady, crowned and carried in public and with the presentation of flowers. Today, these public expressions are less frequent but May remains a special month during which to pray the devotion of the Rosary. The rosary is prayed here at St Peter’s on Tuesday and Friday morning after the morning mass and all are welcome. Why do it? Because Mary is Mother – your mother, my mother, everyone’s mother – and because she cares for all of us day-in-and-day-out without fail, interceding for us in even the tiniest matters.

Irish Referendum on the Eighth Amendment

Irish Referendum on the Eighth Amendment, 25 May 2018 – In their Spring Statement, the Irish Bishops wrote, “Article 40.3.3 is a declaration of equality and respect for human life. It represents, at the very foundations and substructure of our laws, a conviction that all human life is worth cherishing equally. To repeal this Article would leave unborn children at the mercy of whatever permissive abortion laws might be introduced in Ireland in the future. We invite people of faith to pray earnestly that Ireland will “choose life” and that the lives of all women and their unborn children will always be loved, valued, welcomed and respected in this country.” For more information visit

World Communications Day – Sunday 13 May

St Peter Charity Bike Ride 2018 – Many of you will remember that in 2015, a group of parents and teachers cycled 150 miles from the original St Gildas’ school in Yeovil to celebrate 100 years since the nuns founded St Gildas’ school in Crouch End. In the process we raised £27,000 to fund the new playground at St Gildas’ School. We’re now planning to ride the 200 miles from St Peter-in-Chains Church, Doncaster to its namesake in Crouch End over the weekend of 8-10 June to raise additional funds for projects at our two schools. More information, including a link to our donations page, can be found at
