CAFOD – Lent Family Fast Day
CAFOD Family Fast Day this Lent is an opportunity to support our brothers and sisters who don’t have enough to eat. Next Friday 23 February can you give up a meal, or eat a simple meal in solidarity? The Frugal Supper here after the Ecumenical Stations of the Cross at 7:30pm is a good way to show solidarity with those in need. With malnutrition still killing almost three million children a year, your fasting, prayers and donations will ensure more of God’s children have enough good food to eat. And this Lent, your donation will make double the difference. For every pound you donate to CAFOD, the UK Government will also donate a pound, up to a total of £5 million, meaning twice the number of lives can be transformed. Twice the number of children can have the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong. A Fast Day envelope is attached to the Newsletter; please give generously when you return it next weekend. Gift Aid your donation if you can.
In light of recent news reports you may wish to know CAFOD has a statement about safeguarding vulnerable communities on cafod.org.uk.
While we fast our bodies, Lent is also a time to feast the mind and spirit. There are many guides to Lenten reading and prayer, in print, online and for phone apps. A traditional choice and one of the best is the Bible. You will find suggestions on how to start here on the website.
Pope Francis’ prayer intention

Lourdes Pilgrimage volunteer appeal – The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes is once again looking to recruit volunteers to help on this summer’s pilgrimage. If you are over 18, your help would be very much appreciated as a St Frai Helper. Some of our sick pilgrims stay in a hospital-like building called the Accueil St Frai in the centre of Lourdes. It is well equipped and they are looked after by a team of doctors, nurses and volunteer St Frai Helpers whose role is to provide the sort of care for which you don’t need a medical qualification. This includes helping the pilgrims get up and ready in the morning; taking them to pilgrimage events; shopping and socialising with them and other helpers; and putting them to bed at night. The timetable is arranged so there is time to rest, make your own pilgrimage, spend time with your groups and make new friends. If you’re interested in helping, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. 18 is the starting age, but there really is no upper age limit, as long as the volunteer is fit and able and keen to help. The pilgrimage is from Saturday 21st – Friday 27th July.
