Next Sunday, 3rd December, we begin the Season of Advent – our preparation for Christmas. It is also the beginning of a new church year when on Sundays we will be listening principally to the gospel of St Mark; this is referred to liturgically as ‘Year B’. During Advent there will be a number of Prayer Vigils and other events – see notice below – which are a wonderful way to begin the season of Advent. Also keep an eye on the website for Joan Griffiths’ introduction to St Mark’s Gospel. An ideal way to prepare for Advent would be to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament, we also have our Holy Hour on Friday evenings, 7:30-8:30pm.
‘Love not in word but in deed’ – thoughts on the World Day of the Poor
In his message inaugurating last Sunday’s World Day of the Poor, Pope Francis proposed a more radical approach to the poor calling us to go beyond charitable giving, important though it is, and listen to the voice of the poor.
“We are called to draw near to the poor, to encounter them, to meet their gaze…..Their outstretched hand is also an invitation to step out of our certainties and comforts…”
So perhaps, as well as supporting CAFOD World Gifts, we can look for other ways to help those in need – the parish Soup Run, SEEDs, the project to house a Syrian refugee…
Best quote seen on ‘Black Friday’
The best things in life aren’t things.

First Holy Communion 2018 – We have accepted 63 applications for this year’s programme. To accommodate the increase in numbers, there will be 7 classes of 9 children. Thanks to all parents and catechists who attended the meeting on Tuesday. Parents will receive an email confirming their child’s class arrangements shortly. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you do not receive an email by Sunday 3rd December.
Class details and details of the Enrolment Mass can be found in the ‘Preparing for the Sacraments’ section below. Parents should always check this section as it is where regular information about the programme will be published each week.
Accommodation needed – single very responsible working mum and 14-year old son seeking accommodation as present contract ending soon. Ideally 2-bed self-contained but would consider sharing with similar family. Excellent references available. Please email email@example.com or call 07507 138582 for further information.
“Add some sparkle to your marriage” – that’s the title for an event for young (and youngish) married couples to be held in the Abbey Hall on Saturday afternoon 2nd December – starting at 2:30pm and ending with a Mass and renewal of wedding vows. Contact the Ealing Abbey Parish Office for details or to book. firstname.lastname@example.org
Admission to Reception Class for September 2018 – If your child reaches the age of 4 between 1/9/2017 and 31/8/2018 you can apply for a Reception place at St. Peter-in-Chains RC Infant School, Elm Grove, London N8 9AJ. Tours of the school are available on Thursdays at 2pm. Please contact Mrs Gaudiano on 020 8340 6789 for further information or to book a place. Supplementary information forms are available from the school office or can be downloaded from the school website.
Supporting Catholic Education – Do you support Catholic schools and the right of Catholics to send their children to them? Then we need you to make your voice heard. The Government is making a critical decision on whether to overturn the admissions cap which prevents Catholic schools from allowing all Catholic pupils to attend. They have acknowledged that this policy discriminates against Catholics and promised to abandon it; now we need you to tell them not to u-turn on their promise to Catholics. Visit http://catholicnews.org.uk/ or search for ‘Catholic Education’ in your search engine to write to the Government and urge them to drop their policy which bans new Catholic schools.
The Passage – is raising funds through The Big Give from midday Tuesday, 28th November – midday Tuesday 5th December to support its work with homeless people this winter. This is a matched giving scheme for online donations. If an individual, company or trust gave £10, online matched giving of £10 would bring the Gift up to £20. Individuals can also Gift Aid their donation. For more information ring Andrew Hollingsworth 020 75921855 email@example.com. Donate at https://secure.thebiggive.org.uk/project/27756. The maximum individual or organisation donation to qualify for matched giving is £5,000.
Lourdes Christmas Concert – Thursday 7th December 2017, 7:00pm at the Church of Our Lady of Victories, High Street, Kensington. The Lourdes pilgrimage relies on donations and fundraising efforts and events in order to help less able pilgrims and their carers to participate in the pilgrimage and be provided with appropriate medical and volunteer support. This year’s Lourdes Christmas Concert fundraiser event is followed by a Reception but please note that admission to both the event and the Reception is by pre-booked ticket only. Please see notice board for further details.
