Pope Francis – September 2017
Parishes must be in contact with homes, with people’s lives, with the life of society.
They have to be houses where the door is always open so as to go forth toward others.
And it is important that this going-forth follows a clear proposal of faith.
The doors must be opened so that Jesus can go out with all of the joy of his message.
Let us pray for our parishes, that they not be simple offices, but that animated by a missionary spirit, may be places where faith is communicated and charity is seen.
This Sunday is Prisoners’ Sunday, a day to direct our thoughts and prayers to prisoners and their families, and an important opportunity to make a difference. You can show your support by placing a donation in the wall safe at the back of the church above the Holy Water font.
CAFOD Harvest Fast Day
This year’s Harvest Fast Day focuses on the work CAFOD’s partners are doing in El Salvador. Solidaridad CVX, are working with farmers to provide training and reintroduce native seeds that were used generations ago. These seeds are strong and able to grow in the warm, rainy climate, ensuring that farmers are able to harvest crops, and with that, the surety that they will be able to provide for their families. We can support this vital work. Please return the Fast Day envelope with your donation in this weekend’s CAFOD collection. You can also donate online. Please also consider giving a regular monthly donation if you can and gift aid any donation if you are a tax payer. Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity.
Love – Say it with your Life – Reaching out to sisters and brothers in need is at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching and central to our Catholic Faith. Our mission to love has its source, as Pope Francis puts it, “in the heart of the Trinity” as he emphasises our duty to work together to bring about a more just and peaceful world, to put love into action through how we live our lives. This Autumn, our small groups will explore our faith in a God of love and our responsibility to put faith into practice. Renewed in the social teaching of their faith, and supported to commit to practical expressions of Christian social action, who knows what it might spark! Meeting weekly over 6 weeks from this weekend, it will be great preparation to celebrate the first World Day of the Poor, inaugurated by Pope Francis, on Sunday, 19th November. Booklets will be available from group leaders and from the newspaper stand priced £2. Contact the parish office if you want to join a group.
