CAFOD Harvest Fast Day

This year, Harvest Fast Day is Friday 6 October, and focuses on the work our partners are doing in El Salvador. Our partner, Solidaridad CVX, are working with farmers to provide training and reintroduce native seeds that were used generations ago. These seeds are strong and able to grow in the warm, rainy climate, ensuring that farmers are able to harvest crops, and with that, the surety that they will be able to provide for their families.

Fast Days are our opportunity to support this vital work. Please consider fasting and praying in solidarity this Friday. Fast Day envelopes are attached to this week’s newsletter. Please return the Fast Day envelope with your donation for next weekend’s CAFOD collection. You can also donate online. Please also consider giving a regular monthly donation if you can and to gift aid any donation if you are a tax payer. Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity.

Faith Sharing

Love – Say it with your Life – Reaching out to our sisters and brothers in need is at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching and central to our Catholic Faith. Our mission to love has its source, as Pope Francis puts it, “in the heart of the Trinity”. The Holy Father emphasises that it is our duty to work together to bring about a more just and peaceful world, to put love into action through how we live our lives.

This Autumn’s faith-sharing season will help small groups explore our faith in a God of love and our responsibility to put faith into practice. Participants will be renewed in the social teaching of their faith, and supported to commit to practical expressions of Christian social action. Who knows what it might spark! Meeting weekly over 6 weeks from Sunday 8th October, it will be a great way to prepare for the celebration of the first World Day of the Poor, inaugurated by Pope Francis, on Sunday, 19th November. Booklets will be available from group leaders and will also be available from the newspaper stand priced £2. Anyone wishing to join a group should contact the parish office.
