Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions

We welcome Sr Rose Mary Harbinson who will be speaking at all Masses this weekend to share with us the missionary work of the Missionary Sisters of England and Wales. It is an opportunity for the parish to hear how their contributions have been made and put towards on-going projects around the world. There will be a retiring collection after all Masses. Please see posters outside the church.

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor RIP

Cardinal Cormac’s body will be received into Westminster Cathedral at 10am on Tuesday, 12th September and will lie in Westminster Cathedral throughout Tuesday. All are welcome to visit to pay their respects, pray, and sign the book of condolence. At 5pm there will be Solemn Vespers of the Dead, at which Cardinal Vincent will preside and Archbishop Bernard Longley will preach. There will be an unreserved area for those of the faithful who wish to attend Vespers.

The Funeral Mass of Cardinal Cormac will be at 12noon on Wednesday, 13th September. Admission for the congregation at the funeral will be by ticket only. Each parish will be allocated 2 tickets. If you would like to attend, please hand your name and contact number in to the parish office/Fr Sean by Sunday evening (10th) to be drawn on Monday. The parishioners representing the parish will be contacted on Monday. Please pray for the repose of Cardinal Cormac’s soul, and for his family and friends. Please take a prayer card.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is open to adults interested in learning about the Catholic faith with a view perhaps to becoming Catholic as well as to baptised Catholics who may not have been fully received into the Church and wish to make First Holy Communion or to be Confirmed. Please speak to Fr Sean to find out more. Details of an introductory meeting and how to apply will be announced shortly.

Parish Pilgrimage to Poland – A pilgrimage is being planned for 31st May – 6th June 2018. There are posters at the back of the church and in the Porch with all the necessary information. We will be based in Krakow with trips organised each day to different places of interest. The cost of the trip is £799.00 for a twin bedded room. If you require a single room, there is a supplement of £168 for the six nights (limited availability). If you are interested in joining us, please contact Sheila Doyle on telephone No. 020 8340 4511 to reserve a place. A deposit of £200 plus £33 insurance (if needed) is required, the remaining balance is due about ten weeks before departure. Cheques made payable to St Peter-in-Chains Church.

Secondary Schools Transfer 2018 – Details of schools Open Days/Evenings will be published on the noticeboard and in the Newsletter as and when we receive them. Fr Sean’s dates for signing school forms will be published shortly.

Home Mission Sunday – 17th September 2017 – is an opportunity to inspire the faithful and help them engage with the mission of the Church, to evangelise, whilst supporting the work of the Home Mission Office in a practical way. If you wish to make a donation to Home Mission, please place your donation in the wall safe above the Holy water font at the back of the church. Thank you!

‘Retrouvaille’ – is a programme for Married Couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships, or who may already be separated or divorced. How to be a Disciple-making Disciple: – Bishop Mark O’Toole, Head of the Department of Evangelisation and Catechesis of CCBEW will give a lecture entitled, ‘How to be a Disciple-making Disciple: Prayer, Faith, Loving Service and the Sacramental Life’ to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism.
